2027 Toyota Tundra Trailhunter Revealed with Off-Road Hardware and Upgraded Tech

Toyota has officially revealed the 2027 Tundra Trailhunter, expanding its full-size pickup lineup with an attainable, off-road-ready hardware package inspired by the Tacoma. Sitting alongside hints of a future TRD Hammer variant, Car and Driver reports that the new Trailhunter offers buyers an accessible entry point into rugged trail performance.

Built on the SR5 Foundation

The Trailhunter package builds directly upon the Tundra’s practical SR5 trim, which sits just above the entry-level base SR. The SR5 foundation already brings desirable functional equipment to the table, including alloy wheels, a trailer-brake controller, and a dedicated Tow/Haul drive mode. While higher Tundra trims offer sharper styling and fancier amenities, Car and Driver notes that the SR5 provides a practical and relatively affordable base for off-road upgrades.

Because the Trailhunter package is rooted in the SR5 model, it is expected to carry that trim's standard nonhybrid powertrain. Assuming no mechanical engine updates occur for the 2027 model year, this setup features a twin-turbo 3.4-liter V-6 producing 389 horsepower. Buyers who choose the hybrid powertrain option will gain additional power, though Car and Driver notes they will likely miss out on receiving the Trailhunter package.

Dedicated Off-Road Upgrades

To boost capability in tough environments, adding the Trailhunter package equips the Tundra with a specialized suite of mechanical parts and protective gear. Upgrades include:

• Suspension & Tires: An Old Man Emu suspension kit paired with Michelin LTX Trail 265/70R-18 tires.
• Protection & Traction: Additional underbody protection, front recovery hooks, and a locking rear differential to maximize traction in off-road situations.

Visually, the Trailhunter adopts the rest of the refreshed 2027 Tundra lineup's exterior updates. The makeover is focused up front, featuring a boxier grille alongside a more defined, square lower bumper. The Trailhunter distinctively adds bronze wheels as well as unique bronze badges scattered across both the exterior and interior. For added functionality, the Tundra's available front light bar is now brighter, improving visibility along dark roads and trails.

Interior and Safety Enhancements

Inside, the cabin layout remains largely unchanged for 2027, but technology gets a major upgrade. A 14.0-inch touchscreen display is now standard across every 2027 Tundra model. This updated infotainment system includes a new built-in dash cam, and the truck lineup gains updated safety features.

Toyota states that final pricing and full technical specifications for the 2027 Tundra Trailhunter will be announced later this year. Considering the 2026 Tundra SR5 started at $48,705, Car and Driver expects the 2027 Tundra with the Trailhunter package to surpass the $50,000 mark when official numbers arrive.
